A message from Dr. Pete

Hello and Thank-You for visiting our Central Kentucky Concert Band web. We are looking forward to a great 2010-2011 performance season as we continue our quest for musical excellence and celebrate the important role of the adult music-maker in our community. It is a true professional privilege and personal pleasure for me to begin my 17th year as Music Director and Conductor for the CKCB, as together we seek experiences which are both musically rewarding and personally enjoyable.

For now 35 years, members of the Central Kentucky Concert Band have been exemplars of high-quality music-making regularly performing at Transylvania University, the Lexington Opera House, the Cathedral of Christ the King and other area venues. Play Lists always feature standards by composers such as Verdi, Sousa, Brahms, Grainger, Holst, Beethoven, Vaughn-Williams,Gould, Copland,  et al – as well as newer works – by Holsinger, Gillingham, Giroux, de Meij, Sparke, Smith, et al. Our membership is comprised of adult instrumentalists who volunteer their time and talents to the Band and includes teachers and preachers, engineers and lawyers, business owners and homemakers, civil servants and secretaries all united by a common interest – the love of making music.

Featured Soloists and Special Guests are also a highlight of our concerts and of late we have had great opportunity to work with Earle Louder, Vince DiMartino, Dick Cryder and Ryan Shirar [to name but a few] and recently have also had the opportunity to collaborate with the East Jessamine, Rockcastle County and EKU Model Lab School Bands.

The Band is a member of the Association of Concerts Bands of America, LexArts and is a registered 501(C)(3) organization.

The CKCB was founded in 1976 and is widely recognized as the premier, adult concert band in the Commonwealth, as well as one of the finest ensembles of its nature in the southeastern United States. Since 1994, Dr. Peter LaRue has served as the Music Director and Conductor of the Central Kentucky Concert Band. Mr. Les Anderson is the Assistant Conductor and Dr. Lee Patrick serves as Chair of the Executive Board. The CKCB has benefited historically from the support of the Kentucky Arts Council, LexArts, the Scott County Council of the Arts, Georgetown College, Asbury College and Transylvania University.
